Supporting Other Relatives (S.O.R.) with Emotional and Physical Wellness Challenges.
These S.O.R. (Supporting Other Relatives) Labs are 16 – 24 hour or communication training labs for relatives, caregivers and friends who are working with community individuals struggling with emotional or Physical wellness. Relatives, Caregivers and Friends are working with individuals classified as Community Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) individuals who, without this support, might end up being admitted into the County Behavioral Health Treatment programs.
Relative, Caregivers, and Friends, who give and give , are trying to support Community PEI Individuals, often suffer with Secondary Trauma and Burnout because the individuals they are working with are stuck and/or "aren't getting any better". “Nothing is changing.
This dynamic is true because the Relatives, Caregivers, and Friends are busy "doing things for the person" and are utilizing Intentional Questions in their day to day follow up communication. These Intentional questions do not engage the PEI Individuals in a securing and maintaining a GROWTH MIND SET. I believe that if Relatives, Caregivers, and Friends are trained on asking Powerful Questions, built on 20 Life Anchor Points, they will engage the PEI Individuals in developing growth mind sets and subsequently begin to change. This communication shift, which promotes growth will also reduce Relative, Caregiver and Friend secondary trauma and Burnout.
